The meaning of « Arkhai » 

The concept « Arkhai » stems from the ancient Greek word « αρχαι », which means the « principle » or the « origin ». This meaning has shaped our understanding of the words « archaic » and « antique ». However the name StudioArkhai is not built on this meaning, but rather on its original variant : a sign and symbol of an origin, which goes beyond distinct cultures, and which can be understood by everyone.

The concept of Arkhai was made familiar by Plato, through his Septem Artes Liberales : the seven antique scientific disciplines Grammar, Rhetoric, Logic, Mathematic, Geometry, Music und Astronomy, which have been taught together until the Middle Ages in the Universities, and which constitute the basis of modern science.

In StudioArkhai, learning is based on the antique model of interdisciplinary cohesion : that is, with emphasis on how phenomena in mathematics, music, grammar, and other fields are tightly linked, and how these have to be observed and taught this way to others.
